Getting Started

How to Get Your NYSC Call-Up Letter

Follow these steps carefully — errors in your data are difficult to correct after submission.

1

Senate/School Uploads Your Data

Your institution uploads your data to the NYSC portal. Ensure your name, date of birth, and course are correct on your transcript before they do this.

2

Create Your NYSC Portal Account

Visit portal.nysc.gov.ng and create an account using your matriculation number, email, and personal details. Upload a recent passport photograph.

3

Complete Online Mobilisation

Fill in your personal details, upload required documents (passport, certificate, transcript), and complete the online mobilisation form carefully — errors are difficult to fix.

4

Print Your Call-Up Letter

Once approved, your call-up letter will be available for download. Print multiple copies. This letter specifies your camp state and reporting date.

📋

Documents to Upload

  • Degree/HND certificate or statement of result
  • Academic transcript
  • Birth certificate or age declaration
  • Passport photograph (white background)
  • Local Government Area (LGA) of origin letter

Pro Tips

6 Camp Survival Tips from Corps Members

Advice gathered from hundreds of corps members who have been through camp.

01

Register for the Right CDS Group

Community Development Service groups meet weekly throughout your service year. Choose one aligned with your career goals — education, health, agriculture, tech, or business.

02

Be Early for Everything

Camp activities start at 5am. Get to assembly ground early. Being late leads to punishment. Set an alarm and sleep early — camp is exhausting for the first few days.

03

Protect Your Documents

Keep all documents in a waterproof file or bag. Never leave originals unattended. Losing your call-up letter or certificate at camp creates major complications.

04

Network Seriously

You'll meet future business partners, employers, and lifelong friends at camp. Exchange contacts, join WhatsApp groups for your state, and stay in touch after camp ends.

05

Take Skills Acquisition Seriously

NYSC skills acquisition workshops teach tailoring, bead-making, catering, digital skills, and more. These are genuinely useful and can become side income during your service year.

06

Stay Healthy

Camp conditions can cause malaria and stomach issues. Take prophylactic malaria drugs, use mosquito nets, drink bottled water, and rest when you feel unwell — the medical centre is free.

FAQ

NYSC Frequently Asked Questions

After camp, if you are unhappy with your deployment state, you can apply for redeployment. Log in to your NYSC portal account, navigate to redeployment, and provide a valid reason (medical grounds, marriage, security concerns).

Missing camp without approval is an abscondment and is treated seriously. You may be required to start a fresh batch. Contact NYSC immediately if you have a genuine reason for missing camp (medical emergency, etc.).

The NYSC monthly allowance is paid by the federal government and is subject to periodic review. Check the current rate on the official NYSC website or your state NYSC secretariat.

Yes. Nigerian citizens who studied abroad are required to complete NYSC. The process requires additional documents including your foreign degree and transcript. Contact NYSC headquarters or the nearest state secretariat for specific requirements.

The NYSC service year lasts approximately 12 months: 3 weeks at orientation camp, followed by 11 months at your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). The year ends with a passing out parade where you receive your discharge certificate.
