CBT Tips

6 CBT Strategies to Boost Your JAMB Score

These strategies are used by candidates who score 280 and above consistently.

01

Use the 40-Second Rule

You have about 2 hours for 180 questions — that's 40 seconds per question. If stuck, flag it and move on. Return to flagged questions at the end.

02

Practise on the Official App

Download the JAMB CBT practice software. Practise until you're comfortable with the interface. Fumbling with the computer during the real exam costs valuable time.

03

Master Use of English First

Use of English alone carries 100 marks. Reading comprehension, passages, and grammar rules — master these for a big score advantage.

04

Read the JAMB Novel

JAMB prescribes a novel each year. Questions from it appear in Use of English. Read the full novel and know the plot, characters, and themes thoroughly.

05

Eliminate Wrong Answers

For MCQs, eliminate obviously wrong options first. This improves your probability of selecting the correct answer even when unsure.

06

Simulate Full Exams at Home

Sit 3–5 full practice exams under real conditions before your actual exam. This trains your stamina and shows you where to improve.

FAQ

JAMB Frequently Asked Questions

CAPS (Central Admissions Processing System) is where you accept or decline university offers. After your UTME, if a school offers you admission, log in to jamb.org.ng, go to CAPS, and accept or reject the offer. You must accept before the deadline or the offer expires.

Yes. JAMB allows one change of institution and course for a fee. Log in to the JAMB e-Facility portal at efacility.jamb.org.ng and follow the change of course/institution process. Changes must be made before the exam.

JAMB results are valid for the year they were taken. You cannot use a previous year's result to apply for admission in a new academic session — you must resit the exam each year.

The minimum national cut-off set by JAMB for federal universities is typically 160–200. However, each university sets its own departmental cut-offs which are often higher. Aim for 200+ for safety, and 250+ for competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering.

If you miss your scheduled JAMB exam, you may be eligible for a rescheduled exam in special circumstances. Contact JAMB directly via their helpline or visit a JAMB office. Missing without a valid reason typically means you must re-register next year.
