Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2025. This policy explains how ExamBuddy Nigeria collects, uses, and protects your information.

1. Who We Are

ExamBuddy Nigeria ("ExamBuddy", "we", "our", "us") operates the website at exambuddy.ng. We provide free exam preparation resources for Nigerian students. We are an independent information website and are not affiliated with WAEC, JAMB, NYSC, NECO, or any Nigerian exam body.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in the following ways:

  • Information you provide voluntarily: When you submit our contact form or subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your name and email address. We collect only what you give us.
  • Automatically collected data: When you visit ExamBuddy, we automatically collect technical data such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and time spent on pages. This is collected via analytics tools (see Section 5).
  • Cookies: We use cookies to improve your experience. See Section 4 for full details.

We do not collect exam results, personal exam numbers, or any academic records. We do not have access to any exam body databases.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To respond to your contact form submissions and enquiries
  • To send you our newsletter if you have subscribed (you can unsubscribe at any time)
  • To improve the content and performance of our website
  • To understand how visitors use our website through aggregated analytics
  • To serve advertisements via Google AdSense (see Section 6)
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

ExamBuddy uses Google Analytics to understand website traffic and usage. Google Analytics collects data such as pages visited, time on site, and general location (country/city level). This data is anonymous and aggregated — we cannot identify individual visitors.

Google Analytics data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

6. Advertising — Google AdSense

ExamBuddy uses Google AdSense to display advertisements on our website. Google AdSense is a service provided by Google LLC.

Google AdSense uses cookies and web beacons to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to our website and other websites on the internet. This allows Google to show relevant advertisements to our visitors.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to our site and other sites on the internet. Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

7. Third-Party Links

ExamBuddy contains links to external websites including official exam portals (WAEC, JAMB, NYSC, NECO) and other resources. Once you leave our website, we have no control over the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any external sites you visit.

8. Data Retention

We retain contact form data for up to 12 months after your initial enquiry, unless you request deletion sooner. Newsletter subscriber data is retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics data is retained for 26 months as per Google Analytics default settings.

9. Your Rights

Under Nigerian data protection law (NDPR — Nigeria Data Protection Regulation) and, where applicable, GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right to access: You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to correction: You can ask us to correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to deletion: You can request that we delete your personal data, subject to certain conditions.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where we process data based on your consent (e.g., newsletter), you can withdraw that consent at any time.
  • Right to unsubscribe: Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link. You can also email us directly.

10. Children's Privacy

ExamBuddy is intended for secondary school and university-level students. We understand that many of our users may be under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has submitted personal information to us, please contact us at hello@exambuddy.ng and we will delete it promptly.

For visitors under 18, we encourage parents or guardians to supervise their child's use of the website and contact us with any concerns.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. Our website is served over HTTPS (secure connection). However, no method of internet transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will indicate the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ExamBuddy after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
